#PostponeJEE_NEETinCovid Starts Trending on Twitter, Students Want NEET 2020 Postponed

COVID-19 has stopped students from going on streets and starting a movement against conducting NEET 2020. However, these movements are now being run on the internet, as usual. With the help of twitter and facebook, students are trending the hashtag – #PostponeJEE_NEETinCovid to bring the attention of authorities. Various exams conducted recently, such as KCET had no social distancing between students even after several assurances from the authorities. 60 students who were attending this exam were found COVID-19 positive.

The NEET 2020 is scheduled to be conducted a week after JEE Main 2020 i.e. on 13th September 2020. The date is almost 43 days away from the date of publishing this article. As of today, the number of daily COVID-19 cases in India have reached a new record of 57,000+. Within every two days, the country is adding 1 lakh cases. Many are justifying this jump due to an increase in testing in the past few days. However, it shows that the country might not be able to cover the gap of active vs recovered cases of COVID-19.

The Aam Aadmi Party, Bihar has supported students for this cause by tweeting with the hashtag.

It is no doubt that the regular rise in cases has worried students and parents. UGC guidelines on conducting final year exams for colleges have already faced backlash from students. Meanwhile, Delhi University cancelled their exams until the situation was back in control. In another tweet, the National Secretary of All India Students’ Association (AISA), also tweeted in support of students.

Students have been regularly posting tweets and tagging the education minister, Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal, to postpone or even cancel the NEET 2020 exam. He has regularly ensured that health and safety of students is the first priority. Moreover, schools and colleges have been shut for another month. It is clear that the decision to postpone NEET 2020, which will have a participation of at least 15 lakh students altogether, would ensure safety of students only. Although, there has been no statements regarding postponing the medical entrance any further.

SC Urges Central Govt. and MCI to Respond on Plea for NEET Aspirants in Gulf Countries

New Delhi: On July 29, after receiving pleas from 4,000 NEET aspirants, Supreme Court asked the Central Government and Medical Council of India (MCI) to give a suitable response on setting up NEET exam centers in Gulf countries. The bench headed by Justice L Nageswara was behind issuing the notice to the Central Government and the MCI.

The plea of those 4000 aspirants proposed to postpone the exam until the pandemic situation eases down. Parents belonging to Doha, Qatar, Oman and UAE sought response from the highest dignitaries after Kerala High Court rejected their proposal.

Criticizing NTA, Abdul Azeez, the general secretary of Kerala Muslim Culture Center in Qatar said that if the authority wants, they can open NEET exam centers in Gulf countries as they have done for JEE Main.

The plea to the Supreme Court mentioned that NTA would only open examination centers if MCI gives a green signal. On the other end, MCI on May 21 had conveyed the message to the apex government that NEET 2020 online examination is not possible.

The plea said, “During these exceptional circumstances, the MCI and the Union government need to be flexible so as to facilitate these students to sit for NEET.”

A lot of students from the Gulf countries had tried to travel to India via the Vande Bharat Mission flights in order to sit for NEET examination to get themselves enrolled in MBBS and BDS courses in medical colleges. However, they could not get hold of seats on these flights as they are prioritizing those who are stuck abroad.

NEET PG and MDS 2020 Provisional Mop-up Result out, Final Result to be Declared Today

DGHS (Directorate General of Health Services) in lieu of the Medical Counselling Committee has declared the provisional results of NEET PG and MDS 2020 Counselling mop-up round for the Central and other universities at mcc.nic.in. The result is available at the official website in the PDF form. According to the provisional results, a total of 1,666 haven been shortlisted for Central and Deemed PG Medical Institutes and 117 for Central and Deemed MDS Institutes.

The authority had also directed the candidates to inform about any kind of discrepancy in their results via mail at [email protected] by July 21, 2020, till 2:00 pm.

What after NEET PG/MDS mop-round Result?

After the mop-up round result, selected candidates can download the allotment letter NEET PG/MDS and then either CHOOSE or WITHDRAW from the allotted seat. The selection letter includes all the credentials and other information such as rank, allotted college, and so on. On opting to “choose” the allotted seat, the aspirants can report to the college with the letter showing the completion of the admission process.

The final round for the Mop-up Round of PG Counselling will be declared today (July 22, 2020).

Tamil Nadu Government Approves 7.5% “Quota Within Quota” in Private Colleges for MBBS Intake

Live Update: Within the existing reservation in undergraduate medical courses, the Tamil Nadu cabinet has approved a 7.5% quota. This quota has been approved for government higher secondary schools’ candidates passing NEET 2020. The Cabinet meeting, which was headed by Chief Minister K. Palaniswami at the Secretariat, voted in favor of granting approval to the six companies who proposed an investment of Rs 5000 crore to Tamil Nadu.

As per the official sources, “The Quota within Quota covers government seats in private colleges too.”

The deadline to make corrections in application forms of NEET and other exams has been extended by NTA. The form correction window which was supposed to be opened till July 15, 2020, will remain open till July 20, 2020, now.

The form correction facility for NEET and other exams such as JEE, UC NET, IGNOU OPENMAT, Ph.D., etc will remain open till 20th July to make corrections in exam centers, photographs, signatures, and so on.

The decision to extend the deadline comes from the fact that “Some of the candidates have uploaded Photograph/ Signature which is illegible or has uploaded Photographs with Mask; such candidates are advised to upload clear photograph/signature of the desired specification (as detailed in Annexure – A) to avoid cancellation of their candidature.”  says NTA.

NTA Might Be Revising Dates For NEET UG 2021 Soon

It is being reported that NTA is considering revising the dates of NEET 2021. This is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the delayed NEET 2020 Exam Dates. The postponing of the current year dates of NEET and JEE Main has already caused trouble with the academic calendar for students. The decision on NEET 2021 dates would be taken only after the situation of COVID-19 spread is under control and schools are set to re-open.

For now, schools and colleges are shut until 31st July 2020. There’s varying response from various authorities over reopening the schools and colleges and thereby conducting the exams that have not been conducted due to the country-wide lockdown. However, most of the universities are conducting open-book online exams which are now being seen as the new normal.

Delay in 2020, Means Delay in 2021

The dates for NEET 2020 have been postponed twice since March 2020. Considering the gap of around 2 months, it is unlikely that the COVID-19 situation in the country would come under control so soon. This could mean another delay in the NEET 2020 exams. The new date for NEET 2020 is 13th September 2020.

If that happens, it is likely that the NEET 2021 Application Forms could not be released by Nov-Dec 2020. Moreover, the possibility of conducting the JEE Main January 2021 session by NTA will also come at a halt. The dates for a lot of other exams might coincide such as CBSE Boards, NEET (UG), JEE Main and JEE Advanced. This will put pressure on authorities, as well as, hamper the performance of students in respective exams. This is also another reason why NEET 2021 dates might be shifted from the expected dates.

Another reason for this delay could be the inappropriate time for preparation. Most of the students start their preparations from class 11th. Delay in class 10th results and admissions to class 11th have caused a gap in preparations of NEET and other competitive exams. Similarly, students of class 11th and 12th are deprived of classroom education due to closure of schools and coaching institutes amid COVID-19 pandemic. This has deteriorated their preparations for the NEET 2021 examination.

In such a situation, it seems that the best option for NTA would be to postpone the dates for NEET 2021. Another relief that can be provided is a reduction in the NEET Syllabus for students, similar to the revised curriculum of CBSE, that has been released recently.

Bengaluru: Karnataka State Government is considering awarding 5 marks to all the NEET aspirants who are aiding during the pandemic of COVID-19. On July 6, Dr. K Sudhakar said, “About 2,000 medical students who are appearing for PG exams will be utilized for COVID related work. Apart from this, final year nursing students and MBBS students will be deployed at COVID care centres. Government is also considering to award 5 marks in NEET exam for medical students involved in COVID related work.”

Sudhakar also said that the state government is pondering on giving risk allowance to frontline health workers who are fighting day and night against the novel coronavirus.

In the live conference, Sudhakar further added, “The State Government is thinking to double the salary of Group D workers and provide risk allowance to all front line workers. A final decision will be made in this regard in 2-3 days. Our doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and all corona warriors have been working tirelessly for the past 120 days. Naturally, this has taken a toll both physically and mentally and caused fatigue. Our corona warriors are vulnerable to the infection and the additional allowance is a small step towards boosting their morale.”

The decision in any regard will be given in 2-3 days. As per the stats, 1,925 corona positive cases were recorded on Monday, taking the total count in the state to 23, 474.

NEET (UG) 2020 Application Form Correction Window Reopened Again Till 15th July

Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal announced the postponement of NEET 2020 exam till 13 Sept 2020. With that, NTA is providing another chance to candidates for NEET Application Form Correction. The NEET Form Correction Facility has been re-opened by the NTA from 4th July to 15th July 2020. As per the public notice by NTA, candidates will be allowed to update their NEET Exam Centre preferences using this correction facility. Along with this, NEET Admit Card 2020 will be released 15 days prior to the exam.

The NEET Form Correction Window will be open only till 5:00 PM on 15th July 2020 and correction fee can be paid (if required) only till 11:50 PM. The additional fee for correction (if required) can be paid via Debit/Credit Card, Net banking, UPI or Online Wallets.

Live Update on NEET, JEE Main, MHRD declares New Dates

Owing to the novel COVID-19 outbreak, the HRD ministry has finally postponed NEET, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. NEET 2020 exam date is set on September 13, 2020.

NEET, JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations were supposed to be conducted in the months of April and May. The ministry had to postpone the examinations due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown. It was anticipated that the condition will get better in the month of July and hence all the medical and engineering entrance exams were rescheduled to be conducted this month. NEET 2020 was all set to be conducted on July 26, 2020. 

However, the COVID-19 cases are rising at a dangerous rate, reaching almost 21,000 on July 3. This has made the conducting of exams extremely impossible. Additionally, MHRD and NTA received thousands of messages from NEET and JEE Main aspirants, urging the authorities to postpone the exams as taking these exams would make lakhs of students vulnerable to the virus. 

After the cancellation of CBSE examinations, JEE Main and NEET aspirants grew more anxious. Over the last month, numerous petitions were signed by both Indian and NRI students to act upon this matter. In fact, various hashtags such as #PostponeNEETJEE #NoExamsinCovid were trending on Twitter too.

Yesterday, MHRD set up a panel to discuss the logistics and other factors and asked the experts to send their recommendations by today. Observing the current scenario, NTA and MHRD had no choice but to postpone the exams to September. The news was declared by MHRD minister, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal in a live webinar with Sunil Chettri and PV Sindhu.

It is quite evident that this tweet by Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” brought a sigh of relief to lakhs of students as it received a commendable 16,000 likes in no time. For now, the authority has set the NEET exam date on September 13, 2020, and NEET Admit Card will be issued 15 days prior to the exam. However, nothing concrete can be said presently, as it is very unlikely that the spread of the virus will curb by the end of August.

MHRD sets up Panel to review NEET Exam Dates, Suggestions to be presented by tomorrow

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown of the nation, NEET and JEE Main examinations were already rescheduled to be conducted in the month of July with the anticipation that the situation will get better. NEET 2020 was scheduled to be conducted on July 26, 2020 and JEE Main from July 18 to July 23, 2020. Unfortunately, the situation hasn’t got better and the number of cases in the country is rising at an increasing rate day by day. This will make it very difficult to conduct national level entrance exams which will be given by lakhs and lakhs of students. MHRD received thousands of messages and tweets from the NEET and JEE Main aspirants and their well-wishers, urging to postpone both the medical and engineering entrance examination. Consequently, MHRD has recently formed a panel to evaluate the situation and hold both the medical and engineering entrance exams in the country. The panel is set up to make a decision based on several factors in terms of seating logistics and the extreme safety of the students due to the alarming rise of the COVID-19 cases in the country.
