NEET is an all-India level entrance test conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to various medical and dental colleges. Approximately, 355 medical colleges and 125 dental colleges accept NEET scores for admissions. As per the directives, 15% of the entire medical seats will be allotted to qualified candidates under All India Quota. The remaining 85% State Quota seats will be allotted through state level counselling.

With an exception of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, all other Indian states will conduct admissions as prescribed under the policy laid by MCC. NEET, being most sought-after entrance test for medical courses, is now the only examination for medical aspirants. 2. Christian Medical College, Vellore

CMC located in Vellore and is maintained by Christian Medical College Vellore Association in 1918.  The college offers multiple under graduate, post graduate and doctoral courses focusing on the areas of Medicine, Surgery and Nursing. 3. Armed Forces Medical College, Pune

AFMC is a premier medical Institute of India which provides training to under graduate and post graduate medical and nursing students with assured career prospects in defence services. The college offers MBBS and B.Sc (Nursing) at UG level and MD and MS courses in various specializations at PG level.

4. Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi

MAMC is a government medical college in Delhi and was established on October 24, 1959. The institute is affiliated to University of Delhi and is located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. The medical school offers undergraduate (MBBS), post graduate (MS, MD) and Super Specialty (DM and M.Ch) courses. The campus houses Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Centre and Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences. Admissions to all the courses will be through All India Rank in NEET UG and NEET PG only. The college has consistently ranked 3rd among the medical colleges, all over the country.

5. King George’s Medical University, Lucknow

King’s George Medical University is one of the esteemed Medical institutes of North India, located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The university, established in 1911 was formerly known as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical College.  The university, every year admits 1250 students to its under graduate courses (including dental) and 450 students to its post graduate courses. MBBS course is for the duration of four and a half years. For taking admission in the Institute minimum 50% marks is required for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

8. Institute Of Medical Sciences, BHU

The Institute of Medical Sciences(IMS-BHU) has provided three institutes for Various Courses:

  • Dental Sciences- It offers BDS and MDS courses.

The Grants Government Medical College located in Mumbai is one of the most renowned medical institutes, affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nasik. The Madras Medical College is a medical education college located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was established in February 02, 1835. It is the third oldest college in India and is one of the foremost centres of post graduate medical studies with an annual intake of 425 students. Where should you stand to take admission in these colleges?

The admissions to these colleges is very competitive due to limited number of seats. These colleges offer MBBS and BDS courses at a very low cost of attendance compared to a large number of private medical colleges. A list of opening rank and closing ranks of the major colleges is given below.

So, as you must have noticed, even the first 15,000 students are selected in the best institutes of the country. But also notice that out of the 50 percentile scorers, you have to be in top 15,000. And considering the current number of applicants which is around 15.92 lakh, you would have to be in at least top 1.88% to secure a top-tier college.
