Preparations for the exam are undergoing full pace by students and with a recent announcement, the students are pacified even more.

NTA has announced in a notification released on the official website of NEET (UG) 2020 that the admit cards for NEET 2020 will be available 15 days prior to the examination date.

Release of Admit Card

According to this speculation, the NEET 2020 Admit Cards will be released on or before 11th July 2020.

The exam is going to be conducted on 26th July 2020 in a single shift of 2 PM to 5 PM only. As the NEET 2020 paper is conducted in pen and paper mode only, NTA has reached out to various schools and colleges to increase the number of centres which will help maintain social distancing guidelines for students. It is expected that total centres for NEET 2020 will be increased from 3000 to 6000 in order to accommodate all the students in a single shift on a single day.

NTA has also released the expected dates for the release of JEE Main 2020 Admit Card which is same as NEET – 15 days prior to the exam date. More than 9 lakh candidates have applied for JEE Main 2020 which will be conducted in two shifts from 18th to 23rd July 2020.

Tripura Government To Fund Its Own ‘Super 30’ For NEET Aspirants

Tripura Government has announced a scheme which will sponsor the education of 30 medical and engineering aspirants from the state. The scheme termed as ‘Super 30’ will fund education or coaching of 30 students towards the preparation of NEET or JEE for the upcoming year.

The scheme will fund 30 students based on their marks in Madhyamik Examinations (matriculation) conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education. State Education Minister, Raman Lal Math, informed while speaking to the state secretariat that the students will be chosen after due consideration of SC and ST reservations.

To avail the benefit of this scheme, the first criteria is annual family income, which should be less than Rs 8 lakh. Tripura Board of Secondary Education has been asked to prepare a list of beneficiaries according to their board exam results. This list will be prepared by Tripura Board out of a list of 20 SC, 30 ST and 50 General category candidates.

Estimated Budget of the Scheme

According to the scheme, students who finally avail the benefits would be eligible to study at a coaching centre of their choice anywhere in the country, with funding for education provided completely by the State Government. It is estimated that the scheme would require finance of Rs 72 lakh per annum with approximately Rs 2.4 lakh spent on each student. Since the scheme is going to sponsor 30 students for both NEET and JEE each, the net estimate goes around Rs 1.44 crore.

The Education Minister also said, “Education department officials would be in charge of checking the progress of students by visiting respective coaching centres twice a year and reviewing their performance in each quarter”.

Lack of Resources for Students

According to the data provided by Tripura Board of Secondary Education, 3,690 students appeared under exams from science stream in 2019. A lot of students apply at top coaching institutes but are unable to attend them either due to lack of resources or due to heavy travel costs from north-eastern states.

Education Minister Nath said that students from Tripura do not get the best opportunity to get admission to top medical or engineering colleges. If provided an equal opportunity as other students, they can also grab a seat in top courses of best colleges and universities.

A total of 27,155 students, which included 13,906 male and 13,249 female students, appeared in Higher Secondary Exams of Tripura state board last year. Among these, 80.51% of students passed the exams, which was a bit higher than the 78.62% pass rate from 2018.

‘Super 30’ is Anand Kumar’s Ramanujan School of Mathematics based in Patna, where he provides education to 30 aspiring students for IIT JEE. The scheme devised by Tripura govt has not credited any reference or inspiration to the school run by Kumar.

New NEET Exam Centres List To Be Released Within A Week

The Director-General of National Testing Agency, Mr Vineet Joshi, has said that the new list of new NEET exam centres will be released within a week. The list will have information about all the exam centres which are now being added to improve social distancing norms considering the situation of COVID-19 pandemic across the country. The list for new exam centres for the JEE Main 2020 will also be announced.

In an interview, he said, “We are in talks with all the organizations and the list of examination centres will be announced within a week, and not more than that.”

Mr Vineet Joshi also said that the examination body, NTA, is going for trials runs of home-based “proctored” tests for some small examinations in order to combat the risks of travelling amid COVID-19 outbreak. He added, “We are trying to introduce this for the smaller examinations for now. We’ll begin the smaller ones, learn the lessons and move on the bigger examinations soon enough.” Although, NEET and JEE Main would not come under this.

Social Distancing Guidelines For Students

New exam guidelines are being set up as a precautionary measure which shall be followed at NEET Exam Centres. He stated that parents will be asked not to escort their children to the exam centres except if it is very essential such as in the case of an exam centre being situated in the outskirts of a city or if the child has special needs. He said that barricading shall be in place to ensure that candidates do not crowd at gates or break social distancing. Entry will also be maintained in such a way that the gates do not get too crowded. Social distancing will be followed before, during and after the examination.

Conducting Exams with Extra Rooms and Centers

NEET is conducted in Pen and Paper mode only. Moreover, the examination shall be conducted on a single day i.e. 26th July 2020 with approximately 11 lakh aspirants appearing for the examination. According to Mr Joshi, NTA is under talks with schools and colleges to provide extra rooms and centres so that maximum number of centres are available to maintain social distancing. This will also help students get their first preference for the exam centre. But this also raises a question of whether the newly set-up exam centres will be able to prevent any leakage of data?

A lot of students face problems due to missing photographs or documents. Students will be asked to carry a photograph so that they can appear for the examination. But “no student shall be turned away because of these problems”, he said.

On dates of NEET Admit Card, he said that if the situation is stable, admit cards will be released around 21 days prior to the exam dates. And for NEET 2020 Results, they will try to release the results in about 15 to 20 days after the exams are concluded as inspection of OMR sheets might take some time. While for the results of JEE Main, he told that NTA would be able to release results soon after the exam as JEE is conducted completely in computer-based mode.

On NEET 2020 being conducted in Pen and Paper mode, he said that they are reviewing the possibility of conducting future NEET examinations in an online computer-based mode as the ‘logistics of computer exams are much easier to maintain than an exam on pen and paper.’
