AIIMS UG: Important Topics

Listed below are some of the important topics for each subject that you should prepare really well and should not miss out.


Genetics, Cells, Systematic, Ecology and Human Health & Diseases are very important to prepare.


General Organic Chemistry is the most important topic of all. Other than that, Hydrocarbons, Equilibrium, Bonding etc. are also very important. Last, but not the least, you should be very thorough with reactions of p-block elements.


Modern Physics, Heat and Thermodynamics, Waves, Ray Optics are the most important topics of Physics.

AIIMS: Subject-wise Tips

Tips for Physics

Physics tests your analytical skills and is all about concepts, so it needs a lot of solving practical problems. There are total 60 questions from Physics in AIIMS Question Paper and they are mostly of advanced level. But if your concepts are clear, you won’t face many difficulties in solving the problems.

The most important thing to ace Physics is to grasp the concepts well and learn to apply them when solving the problems. For understanding the basic concepts, you need to refer to N.C.E.R.T. Book. Tips for Chemistry

Chemistry is a mixed combination of numerous chemical equations, concepts and problems. First of all, you need to brush up your basics and mark (make a note of) important points while studying, as that will be helpful during revision.

In the previous year question papers, most of the questions have been from N.C.E.R.T. or N.C.E.R.T.-based. Hence, you should first of all refer to NCERT book and master it. Make sure that you rare familiar with each and every line of NCERT Book, before moving on to another book.

There will be 60 questions in this section, and they will be of moderate difficulty level.

To prepare for Biology, follow NCERT and the Trueman’s series of book. 60 questions will be there in this section, whose difficulty level will be between moderate and difficult.

In AIIMS UG Question Paper, there are 20 questions of General Knowledge, carrying 20 marks. Don’t devote too much time on preparing for GK section, it’s wiser to focus more on Physics, Chemistry & Biology.   • There are total 200 questions in the question paper.
  • Biology (Botany & Zoology): 60 questions
  • Chemistry: 60 questions
  • Physics: 60 questions
  • General Knowledge: 20 questions
  • Each question carries 1 mark.
  • For every incorrect answer, 1/3 of the total marks will be deducted from the total score.

Be Meticulous

Once you have gone through the syllabus and the study material well and are confident about the fundamental (basic) concepts, begin the actual preparation. Practice objective type questions from some good books, which have the correct answers printed on the back, and match your answers. The more you practice, the more it will give you a reality check about your preparation and also help you identify your improvement areas.

Sample Papers & Mock Tests

Besides practicing and studying, also make sure that you are solving enough past year question papers and taking weekly mock tests. In the examination hall, you will have to solve 200 questions in 210 minutes, which is almost one minute per question. Hence, managing your time well is critical in AIIMS exams.
