AIIMS Exam Pattern 2019: Marking Scheme, Type of Questions and Number of Questions

AIIMS MBBS, the entrance exam conducted for admission into 7 AIIMS institutes across the country is a Computer Based Test. There is no offline or pen and paper mode for AIIMS MBBS entrance. The entrance exam will be conducted on 2 days and in 2 sessions on each day. AIIMS exam dates have been released officially as May 25 and 26, 2019. AIIMS Delhi decides the AIIMS Exam pattern as well as the eligibility criteria year after year.

AIIMS Exam pattern 2019

AIIMS Exam pattern follows the format of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Re-assertion. The duration of AIIMS entrance is 3 hours 30 minutes for attempting 200 questions. Since this is a CBT, at the end of exam duration, your exam will automatically end on your computer system. However, during the exam duration, you can go back to any question and change the answer.

  • AIIMS MBBS 2019 exam will be online with about 200 Objective-type MCQ from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Knowledge
  • The level of questions would be that of 10+2 level
  • The automated question paper will be in either English or Hindi according to the choice of candidates as indicated during the Application process
  • Time allotted for the examination is 210 minutes or 3 hours 30 minutes
  • The subject-wise distribution of questions is tabulated below:

Please note that AIIMS MBBS 2019 paper will comprise multiple choice questions and re-assertion type questions. Examinees are provided with Optical Response Sheets to mark their answers. Out of the four options given, candidates need to choose one by clicking the appropriate circle given against each of the four options, using the virtual keyboard.

Marking Scheme

Each correct answer carries +1 mark while each incorrect answer draws a penalty of -1/3 mark as per the AIIMS exam pattern. Questions not answered and answers marked for review are not evaluated. AIIMS 2019 UG marking scheme is tabulated here for better understanding:

It is worthwhile to mention here that the pre-defined qualifying score for AIIMS is 50 percentiles for general candidates and 40 percentiles for SC/ST candidates.

AIIMS Syllabus

The exam conducting authority does not definitely outline the syllabus but the general AIIMS exam pattern has historically been of 12th class Science under the 10+2 Scheme or Intermediate level Science. Candidates are expected to be adept in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry at the 10+2 level as well as sufficiently knowledgeable in General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
